Zumba Party to benefit the Beyond Pink TEAM!

Gabbi : March 8, 2012 5:23 pm : Events, From the Team, Fundraiser

Everyone has a cause they are passionate for. Penie Aalderks, Zumba Instructor, is passionate about having fun while exercising. She is also passionate about donating back to her community. She has combined those passions and is hosting a Zumba Party to benefit the Beyond Pink TEAM.

The Zumba Party is Thursday, March 22 from 6-8 p.m. at The Hub in Downtown Cedar Falls. The cost is $5 at the door with 100% of proceeds going to the Beyond Pink TEAM. All fitness levels are welcome to come and enjoy this event. Everyone is encouraged to exercise at their own pace.

Aalderks has been rallying her Zumba enthusiasts to gather gift cards and donations to add to the money that will be raised that night and will then be donated to the Beyond Pink TEAM to benefit women in the community facing the uphill battle of breast cancer treatment.

Zumba fitness has been around for 10 years in the US. It is a combination of mostly Latin rhythms along with some fitness elements that makes this workout feel like you are at a party instead of a fitness class!  Instructor Penie Aalderks is excited to offer this class and have it benefit an important charity. “Exercise not only makes your body feel good, but also ignites those happy feeling brain cells!” said Aalderks. “I’m just excited that we can wiggle and giggle through our workout and also have it benefit the Beyond Pink TEAM as well.”

When you are diagnosed with breast cancer, you might feel alone, like you are the only one facing this struggle. Sometimes telling your story to someone else can help you, and also help the other person.

Activities are planned from 5 to 7 p.m., but participants can come and go as their schedules allows. Child care is available, but must be pre-arranged.

Two speakers are planned for the evening. Shae Robinson, BSN will facilitate, “Starting the Conversation.” This will be an open discussion. We will encourage participants to share their story in hopes of making our sisters feel comfortable, connected, and a “Champion” for the cause.

Beyond Pink TEAM raffle winners 2012

Gabbi : November 5, 2012 6:48 pm : From the Team, Fundraiser

October has finally drawn to a close. If you have been in the community at all, you probably saw the Beyond Pink TEAM somewhere, doing something for the cause of Breast Cancer.

Whether we were raising awareness of what we do, raising funds to help us do the activities we do, or collecting signatures for the NBCC’s Deadline 2020, the Beyond Pink TEAM was VERY busy this past month. Thanks to everyone who stopped out and saw us.

One of the ways we raised awareness and had a little fun, was a raffle drawing for three amazing gift baskets. We raised a little over $300, but it was fun to watch participants decide which basket they wanted to win, and to “oooh” and “ahhh” over the contents of each basket. We are so thankful for the donations that allowed us to put these baskets together- especially the quilts that were donated by BPT member Holly Meyer and her family.

Pictured below are our winners: Avis Handorf (with the Pretty in Pink Basket); Penie Aalderks (with the Pampered Diva Basket); and Mary Werner (with the Cozy and Comfy Basket).
